Reprioritize, direct attention to visual perception, the non-verbal, as the first form of instinctive knowledge. This is the idea behind REST, paper magazine of photographs without words

The REST experience coming from authorship and curatorial paths on the web curated by Fulvio Bortolozzo. In 2013 he started a Facebook group called We Do The Rest, in which he gathered authors mainly oriented to the photographic observation in every possible variation: from the classic documentaries until latest contemporary art.The focus is on the visual photographic act, devoid of any written-verbal support. Six authors in each issue with 8/10 images each, freely selected and paginated by Bortolozzo, on which we cannot know anything, not even the title of the series. At the bottom of the magazine will only provide references (website or email) to contact the authors.

Clearly this is a publishing project that would have no meaning if it were not thought in the web Both, for the distribution (the site blurb.com print a single paper copy of direct buyer demand) and for all the written materials that you can comfortably find online, on the authors websites.

Thus REST is a silent place, private, on paper, to leaf through "watching pictures", as the first moment of knowledge, pre-verbal, purely perceptual. An oasis to exit from virtual streams and retrieve a slower and personal dimension of the relationship with the images.

Iconography from territories of the contemporary collects the work of some authors who use observation methods directly reconnected to the great tradition of international documentary photography.

The belief is that the photographic iconography, conducted according to these operational and conceptual criteria, is still a way to approach the existential experience that keeps important opportunity to reach new analyzes and stimulating reflections on the contemporary phenomena.

The photographs will be exsposed for the first time in Bologna at the QR gallery space, a non-profit cultural project created by opening an exhibition space for art photography. The new gallery, managed by TerzoTropico, will specialize on social and documentary photography, photojournalism and photographic research on the territory.

QR along with WJ promotes Closer-in reportage project, seeking to create a group exhibition of social and documentary photography.
