The land, the sea and religion, these three ancestral elements which permeate the Salento. DOC is a journey through the faces, the shadows, the shapes, the people of this piece of Italy
Anita focused, not looking at me, juggles between invisible adversaries, he carries the ball at his feet and kicks it up, trying to take it, as soon as I move from my position, however, I run up to me and asked me to see themselves in the picture. And 'happy Anita, runs satisfied by his companions, who in the meantime have started to join the association. There is turmoil within, to celebrate the saving of Italian volunteers who will give way to another group, it was decided to do a cooking workshop where children will prepare desserts that once cooked in the oven, eat together during the party. Anita makes me to sit next to and begin to prepare.
The teacher and the student, listening to her instructions on how to mix and what to put on my donut, we speak two different languages, but we can understand each other very well. I will stay only a few days in Tuzla, the last leg of a trip that took me to Tuzlanska Amica where I did not return for several years. Amica is an association which began its work in '92 in Tuzla, providing assistance to women and children fleeing from war zones.
Over the years it has grown with the support of several Italian reality thanks to programs of foster care at a distance, failing to provide medical, psychological assistance and basic necessities to families in need and to manage a family home to accommodate the children who at the age of 18 must leave the orphanage in Tuzla. The party goes on and it's time to say goodbye, in the meantime arrived the group of new volunteers, so the nostalgia for a departure merges the enthusiasm of those who arrived.
The guys at Volim Tuzla, are a self-organized group of young, university and high school in Bologna, which for some years has as its objective the realization of summer camps at the Tuzlanska Amica Association, to be attended by the children of the orphanage in Tuzla, field of Mihatovići refugees (on the outskirts of the city) and of the district, for the purpose of socialization and inclusion passing from games and outdoor activities in the laboratory manuals. The last day finally know Vilmo, of which I have only heard about. With an average of one trip per month for nearly two decades, from 1992 to date, Vilmo Ferri has made about 300 trips between Bologna and the former Yugoslavia, aid brings all kinds of children and their families in Bosnia.
Thanks to the Amica guys, we empty the van in a short time, while we return turns and asks me "It 'more crazy one who builds a bomb or is it more crazy one who uses it? I think they're both mad. "He pulls out two seeds from his pocket and me makes them fall on the hand," plant them where you want, "he says," If all citizens of any city piantassero a tree, on a day they would form a forest". On the way back I think about this Bosnia, so far away from the gaze of tourists who flock to the Bascarsjia (Sarajevo's central district), or Stari Most. A country that develops around the hills, forests and castles in the valleys.
Animals that graze lazily along the roadsides give way to small craft booths, such as honey or Rakjia (grappa). Still serve as community centers for people places of worship, in which, in addition to praying, we retain on the steps to converse or simply reading. Linked to the traditions in its festivals such as corbarijada, a race where there is challenge in preparing the corba (Balkan soup) most good, in the woods in the morning to cook accompanied by music and dances. It 'a Bosnia that reminds not to delete. Welcoming in its way of communicating that goes beyond words, that leaves in semi pocket of peace be planted.
